What Mr. Darcy had expected to see was Elizabeth in a robe or covered in blankets. Not standing in front of a fire in her chemise.
It was like she had no clothing on at all, as the fire behind her made the chemise a canvas for displaying her figure. Nothing in his wildest imagination compared with the real item. Elizabeth's body was displayed like a silhouette, all her curves prominently featured. Her backside would forever be emblazoned on his mind.
Elizabeth cried, "Mr. Darcy!" She turned to the chair with her arm out, then bent over to pick up a blanket off the floor.
Mr. Darcy groaned and tried to be a gentleman by willing his manhood to calm, but his mind was not truly in it. His tormenter from a variety of dreams was bent over in front of him, her round backside aimed directly towards him. No man, not even a saint, could have closed their eyes at that moment.
Elizabeth stood again, fully wrapped up in the blanket she had hastily thrown over her shoulders and held in front of her. "What are you doing in here? Please leave! You can see I am not decent."
She was not decent, not at all, if his dreams were anything to go by. She was the most perfect hoyden, strumpet, love maker, and cyprian.
Mr. Darcy cleared his throat. He was a gentleman, the master of Pemberley, and he had never done anything so perverted and imprudent in his life. But when it came to Elizabeth, Mr. Darcy found that he could not stay away and could not stop thinking of her. "I came to make sure that your needs were being taken care of to your satisfaction."
Elizabeth stared at him. She obviously thought he had gone barmy. He wondered that himself.
Then she huffed, climbed into the bed, and pulled the covers up to her chin. She probably thought she would be more decent if she covered herself up. How naïve she was, as the vision of Elizabeth in bed had him breathing heavily, clenching and unclenching his fists.
"I did not expect you to to be undressed. IâI meanâ"
Elizabeth's eyebrow rose, and she tilted her head in the way she did when she was about to deliver an opinion that she knew would infuriate the other person. He was sure she had no idea what that did to him. How much her irritated head tilt had appeared in his dreams and daydreams and fueled many of his fantasies.
"I do not think this situation is amusing, Mr. Darcy!"
He suddenly realized he had indeed been smiling and quickly wiped all emotion from his visage.
"Why did you not expect me to be undressed when a maid is repairing my dress? That thought has little in the way of logic."
Elizabeth was far too perceptive. He had found that out when she stayed at Netherfield caring for her sister. "I was sure you would be completely covered as a gentlewoman, which is why I had stopped to check on you.
